Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez Announced That They’re Quitting American Idol According to TMZ, Steven Tyler announced (June 13th) that he’s not returning to American Idol’s next season. He completed two seasons of the show. He states that after long, hard thoughts, he decided to let the show go. He said that he strayed from his first love, “Aerosmith” and that he’s dedicating the next few years to his band. He also adds that the band coming out with a new album on November 6th. Simon Cowell even stated, “I completely understand his desire to get back to his life as the singer in America’s greatest-ever rock band. American Idol will miss him!” Jennifer Lopez just announced (June 13th) that she is quitting American Idol, as well. According to TMZ, she telephoned Ryan Seacrest and informed him of her departure. She states that, “I honestly feel like the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things that I do.” It is rumored that Randy Jackson may not be returning as a judge, but will be a mentor to the singers. American Idol judge Steven Tyler just announced that he will be stepping down from his judging chair. The Aerosmith rocker joined the show two seasons ago, and helped further the careers of winners Scotty McCreery and Phillip Phillips. In a statement released by Fox, Steven said, “After some long…hard…thoughts…I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress ‘American Idol’ before she boils my rabbit.” Incase you guys are a tad lost by his words, yes—that was a reference to Fatal Attraction. Steven explained that doing Idol distanced him from making music, saying, ” I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band.” He concluded by announcing that the next few years would be dedicated to making new music, calling it “the ultimate auditory takeover.” You guys can rest assured there was no bad blood between Steven and the Idol execs—he called the judging experience “over the top fun” but thinks it’s time to bring rock back! Aerosmith will be dropping a new album on November 6 and will tour shortly after. What’s interesting is that this news comes JUST HOURS after JLO strongly hinted that she’d be leaving the judges panel—with both Steven and JLO gone, we’re left with Randy Jackson and two (MAYBE 3?) open seats.
