It’s been a tough rode this season for American Idol winner Phillip Phillips- but he never once showed it on camera. Hey Idol fans, welcome back to ClevverMusic. American Idol crowned its 11th season winner, 21-year-old Phillip Phillips this week, and the details of his medical problems have been unveiled. It was impressive enough that Phillip never landed in the bottom three, but after finding out the Georgia native had eight different surgeries during his run on the show, we have to applaud the resilient Phillip. The pawn shop worker had to repeatedly deal with chronic kidney problems, and his Dad, also named Phillip Phillips told People Magazine, “He’s been doing [well], but it’s just grueling hours and it’s just amazing what he’s done through the journey… Eight operations since we started ‘American Idol.’” Phillip was briefly hospitalized during the show, and will again go under the knife in the next few weeks to have his kidneys reconstructed. He is expected to recover in time to join fellow Top 10 Idols on the Idol Tour when it kicks off July 6 in Detroit. Phillip’s Dad also promised, “I can’t wait for American and the whole world to see him [after his surgery], because he’s a big cut-up.
